Princely State of Jaora 1893 1 Paise Extra Fine (EF-40)

Jaora was a small princely state located in the Malwa region of present-day Madhya Pradesh, India. Established in 1818 by Nawab Mohammad Khan, a Pashtun leader, Jaora came under British suzerainty following his assistance to the British during the Pindari War. The state was known for its strong Islamic culture, particularly around the Dargah of Hazrat Ghulam Ali Shah, which drew pilgrims from across the region. Jaora was governed by a Nawab and covered an area of around 1,500 square kilometers at its peak. Its economy was largely agrarian, with some trade and crafts, and the Nawabs maintained relative autonomy while aligning with British interests until India’s independence in 1947, when Jaora acceded to the Indian Union.
