Solomon Islands 2022 $4 Incan House of the Sun .999 Fine Silver Maze Coin (No Tax)
Located in Cusco, Peru, Coricancha, the temple of Inti, the sun god, was considered to be the quite literal centre of the Inca world. The spiritual heart of this wealthy and expansive pre-Columbian empire, Coricancha was built from perfectly rectangular stones that were hung with sheets of pure gold, which the Inca believed was the sweat of the sun itself. The Spanish, who arrived in the 16th century, wrote that the opulence of Coricancha was "fabulous beyond belief," with statues, furniture, and even mummified human bodies bedecked in gold and on display. While the Spanish eventually looted the gold, destroyed the temple and built a church on the site, the mythical reputation of the Inca House of the Sun lives on.
This beautiful coin, released by PAMP, recalls the splendour of Coricancha with an Inca-inspired geometric design. Made of .999 pure silver, it features two selective sections of gold-plating: the centre, representing the face of Inti, the sun god; and, in the lower right corner, a llama. Llama sacrifices were central to Inca religion, and so the llama gazes up at the sun. The coin also features a "maze" aspect, where a small ball can be guided from llama to sun. Coin comes in its original packaging, which doubles as COA.
