Victorian Chateau Ramezay Souvenir Medallion
Château Ramezay is located on Notre-Dame Street in Old Montreal. Built in 1705 by Governor Claude de Ramezay, it was the first building in Quebec to be proclaimed a historical monument.
This copper medallion, which features an engraving of the Château, is probably a 19th-century souvenir. The reverse summarizes the building's history as a governor's residence and an American military headquarters, but the history ends in 1849. The building notably became the Université de Montréal's first Faculty of Medicine in 1878, so it seems likely that the medallion dates somewhere between 1849 and 1878.
