Group Lot of 12x 1862-1880 USA Cents, 12pcs
By 1857, it was clear that the Flying Eagle cent needed to be replaced. The high points on both sides of the coins opposed each other, making it prone to errors during the striking process. A number of new designs were put forth, and the winner was this: the head of liberty, wearing a feathered Native American headdress. To 19th century Americans, the headdress symbolized the unique cultural identity of the Americas, distinct from that of Europe, Asia, or Africa.
This lot of twelve Indian Head pennies includes the following years: 1862, 1863, 1865, 1874, 1876, 1879, and 1880. Coins are ungraded, in generally collectable condition. Please see images for details.
