Fort Simpson, NWT, Oldest Continuously Occupied Trading Post Souvenir Token

Fort Simpson is the only village in the entirety of the Northwest Territories -- and it is quite proud of its small-town status. Perched on an island where the Mackenzie and Liard rivers meet, it was founded as a trading post for the Hudson's Bay Company in 1804. It functioned as a company town until 1910 and became a National Historic Site in 1969.

This souvenir token features the Coat of Arms of the Village of Fort Simpson on the obverse and a map of the region on the reverse. Text on the reverse reads, "Oldest Continuously Occupied Trading Post on the Mackenzie River, Founded 1804."
