Crafted from 90% silver, the beautiful French 50-franc coin features an elegant design by engraver Augustin Dupré. Liberty and Equality are sometimes incompatible concepts; Dupré shows them, as young women in Classical dress, reconciling at the urging of Fraternity, depicted as a towering, muscular Hercules. Above them is the motto of the French Republic: LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ, or "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity." France has long boasted some of the world's most beautiful coinage, and this piece is truly exemplary.
Please note, the coin exhibits some light toning and comes in a sturdy plastic capsule that shows some minor scuffs.
