Founded in 1078 by William the Conqueror and expanded through the 14th century, the Tower of London is one of England's most famous heritage sites. Throughout its long life, it has been a royal residence, an armoury, a treasury, a menagerie, a mint, a public record office, and, of course, a prison, and has been the backdrop for many a dramatic tale from English history, from the beheading of Anne Boleyn to the mysterious disappearances of the Princes in the Tower. This bronze coin, featuring the exterior of the tower on the obverse and one of its famous crows on the reverse, was a popular tourist souvenir from the Tower throughout the 1980s. This one is dated 1983 and comes in its original case.
