Throughout 2002 and 2003, the Republic of the Congo issued these 99.99% fine silver collector's coins celebrating the history of the automobile. Twenty-four coins were produced featuring some of history's most famous cars. This one features the Bentley 8 Litre, the last new model Bentley produced before the company was sold to Rolls-Royce.
Launched in October of 1930, the 8 Litre Bentley was pure 1930s luxury; but, unfortunately, its debut happened to coincide with the onset of the Great Depression. Nobody bought one, and Bentley spiraled into financial collapse and was purchased by Rolls-Royce. As of 2011, only seventy-eight Bentley 8 Litres were known to survive, and many of those had since had their original bodies replaced by replicas. This makes this car one of the most sought-after by classic car collectors.
Please note, this coin exhibits some minor issues. The capsule is somewhat scuffed and smudged, and the case feels a bit weak in the hinge.
