Germany 1975 1 Thaler 1680 Replica .999 Silver Coin (No Tax) minor issues
Throughout the 1970s, Germany produced a number of .999 silver replica thaler coins. Historically, the thaler was a large silver coin minted by the Holy Roman Empire and later Austrian Empire. The first documented example, which contained just under 26 grams of silver, dates to 1566. The thaler circulated until 1875.
This replica thaler recreates a 1680 coin minted by the Abbey of Essen. The reverse displays a battle occurring in the sky over the city of Essen; a beautifully detailed example of early modern medallic art. The replica coin comes in its original, elegant case and weighs 26.7 grams.
Please note, the case shows some minor wear and discolouration, and the coin displays some light toning.
