The 1944 East Africa 50 Cents coin was issued for the British-controlled territories of Kenya, Uganda, Tanganyika, and Zanzibar during the reign of King George VI. Featuring the “SA” mint mark for South Africa, this coin was struck at the Pretoria Mint, a wartime measure, as the Royal Mint in London was fully committed to the Allied War Effort.
