Denmark 1880CS Ore Almost Uncirculated (AU-50) $
The Denmark 1880CS Ore hails from the early years of the Scandinavian Monetary Union (SMU), marking Denmark’s transition to a modern, gold-backed decimal currency system established by the Coinage Act of 1873. Struck during a period of intense domestic political tension known as the Provisional Law Period (1875–1894), the coin reflects an era in which the Conservative government, supported by the king, often bypassed the democratically elected parliament (the Folketing) by ruling through provisional laws. The initials “CS” on the coin denote Mint Master Diderik Christian Andreas Svendsen, the official responsible for its production.
