Devins & Bolton Counterstamp Over UC-9A 1820 Upper Canada Commercial Change Token ICCS Certified F-12
Devins and Bolton were a prominent Montreal based Canadian firm of chemists and druggests during the 19th Century. They were known for such pharmaceuticals as "Devins and Bolton's Pure Cod Liver Oil and Hypophosphites", and "Children's Carminative Cordial" (which was advertised to help with teething pains, sleep loss, convulsions, restlessness, colic, dysentery, etc. The main ingredient in most Carminative tonics was opium). Devins and Bolton are now mainly known for their practice of counterstamping copper coins and tokens, many of which still survive today, and are popular among collectors.
