Pair of Great Britain First World War Plain Rim Medals (Impaired)
This pair of Great Britain First World War medals includes the War Medal 1914–1918 and the Victory Medal. The War Medal was awarded to individuals who served in the armed forces between August 5, 1914—the day after Britain declared war on Germany—and the Armistice on November 11, 1918. The Victory Medal, officially known as the Inter-Allied Victory Medal, was awarded to all recipients of the 1914 Star or 1914–15 Star and most recipients of the British War Medal. It was not awarded on its own. Eligibility required service in the armed forces of the United Kingdom or British Empire, or with certain recognized voluntary organizations, and entry into a theatre of war between August 5, 1914, and November 11, 1918. Both medals include their original ribbons and feature plain rims, indicating they were not inscribed with the recipient's name or service details. Please note that the Victory Medal shows signs of toning.
