RARE Pair of 2007 & 2008 Alpine Skiing Canada 25-cents Mule & Non-Mule, 2pcs

To strike a coin, you must use two dies: a reverse and an obverse. Occasionally, one of these gets mixed up with something it shouldn't, and the result is a coin with mismatched sides; for example, a coin with two obverses, or a special edition obverse with a regular circulation reverse. These are called "mules," named after the animal, who are the "mismatched" offspring of donkeys and horses.

In and around 2007, the Royal Canadian Mint produced a series of sports quarters running up to the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. The Alpine Skiing quarter has a mule variety, where the reverse is struck with a 2008 date rather than the proper 2007. Unusually, the mule is actually the common version; about 40,000 mules were struck before the error was noticed and the date was switched to 2007. This pair includes one of each: the 2008-dated mule and the 2007-dated scarce variant.
