2007 Canada Thayendanegea Enamelled Proof Silver Dollar ICCS Certified PF67 UHC
Also known by his Christian name, Joseph Brant, Thayendanegea was a Mohawk leader in New York and Ontario throughout the late 18th century. During the American Revolutionary War, Thayendanegea commanded a band of irregulars known as Brant's Volunteers in campaigns against the rebels on the New York border. That his Volunteers were mostly white Loyalists is a testament to his skill and charisma as a leader (and, perhaps, to the general apathy of the indigenous population, who didn't much care about European colonial squabbles). After the war, Thayendanegea and his followers were granted land to replace what they had ultimately lost in New York, a parcel which stretched the length of the Grand River in present-day southwestern Ontario. The spot where they chose to settle, straddling the river, became known as Brant's Ford -- today, Brantford, Ontario.
This sterling silver coin features an enamelled engraving of Thayendanegea based on his famous 1785 portrait by Gilbert Stuart. It has been certified by ICCS and assigned a grade of PF67.
