British Armed Forces 1948 6 Pence Note, Pick #M17

British Military Authority (or BMA) notes were issued to soldiers to use in newly occupied places, both to insulate the local economy from British army spending and to prevent counterfeiting. Notes like these were used by British troops in Italy, Greece, Japan, Yugoslavia, North Africa, and, after 1946, Germany. This particular note was issued for use in Germany and Austria, and Japan and Singapore.
