Ancient Rome 400-404AD Eudoxia Gold Tremissis, S 20884 Constantinople Mint Uncirculated (MS60)

Aelia Eudoxia (c. 380 - AD 404) was the wife of Roman Emporer Arcadius, who reigned from 395-408. As Arcadius was effectively weak and indecisive, Eudoxia became the dominant political force at court, and thus was proclaimed Augusta in AD 400. A highly influential political figure, Eudoxia influenced court appointments, promoted allies and family members, and issued coinage in her own name. Eudoxia died in AD 404, likely due to complications from childbirth, and is remembered as being one of the most politically active imperial women of late antiquity.
