Poland 1682 TLB 6 Groszy F-VF (F15)
In the 17th century, Poland, as part of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, was a major European power but faced mounting challenges that tested its strength. The period was marked by wars on multiple fronts: conflicts with Sweden in the Baltic, long struggles against Muscovy, and devastating invasions by the Ottoman Turks and Cossack uprisings. The mid-century “Deluge,” when Sweden and other enemies overran much of the country, left the Commonwealth weakened and depopulated. Despite these hardships, Poland remained a vast and culturally vibrant state, with its unique system of elective monarchy and noble democracy, but the century also exposed the vulnerabilities that would contribute to its decline in the following era.
