Austria 1626 3 Kreuzer Extra Fine (EF40)
Ferdinand II (1578–1637) was Holy Roman Emperor from 1619 to 1637 and a staunch defender of the Catholic faith during the turbulent years of the Thirty Years’ War. A devout Habsburg ruler, he sought to restore Catholic dominance across his domains, enforcing strict Counter-Reformation policies that often provoked resistance from Protestant subjects. His reign saw the Defenestration of Prague and the outbreak of the war, which devastated much of Central Europe. Despite the destruction, Ferdinand strengthened Habsburg authority and left a lasting mark as one of the most determined champions of Catholicism in early modern Europe.
Obverse: Portrait of Ferdinand II facing right wearing a straight collar, with the legend around.
Reverse: Crowned double headed eagle with the coat of arms of Austria and Burgundry, with the date at 11 o'clock, and the denomination in a circle below the eagle.
Specifications:
Emperor: Ferdinand II
Composition: Billion
Weight: 1.6 g
