Ancient Rome 200AD Julia Domina Silver Denarius AU-UNC (AU55)

Julia Domna (c. 170–217 CE) was a Roman empress and the wife of Emperor Septimius Severus, playing a prominent role in the Severan dynasty. Born in Emesa, Syria, she came from a powerful priestly family and brought significant influence to the imperial court. Julia Domna was deeply involved in political and intellectual life, acting as adviser to her husband and later to her sons, Caracalla and Geta. She patronized philosophers, writers, and scholars, helping to shape the cultural and intellectual climate of the empire. After Septimius Severus’s death in 211 CE, she continued to wield influence during the joint rule of her sons until her death in 217 CE, following Caracalla’s assassination.

Obverse: Draped bust of Julia Domna, her hair waved and coiled at the back, facing right, with the legend around.
Reverse: Ceres, draped, seated facing left, holding ears of corn in her right hand and a torch in her left hand, with the legend around.
