Ancient Rome 82AD Ephesus Mint Domitia Silver Cistophorus F-VF (F15)

Domitia Longina (c. 53–c. 128 CE) was the wife of Emperor Domitian and a prominent figure of the Flavian dynasty. Daughter of the consul Gnaeus Domitius Corbulo, she married Domitian before he became emperor and accompanied him to the throne in 81 CE. Though ancient sources often portray her as beautiful and politically astute, her relationship with Domitian was reportedly stormy, with periods of estrangement and reconciliation. Domitia played a role in court ceremonies and was honored with titles reflecting her status, but she largely avoided overt political involvement. After Domitian’s assassination in 96 CE, she survived the purges that followed and lived out her life quietly, maintaining her dignity and securing her legacy as a key figure of the imperial household.

Obverse: Draped bust of Domitia facing right, with her hair in a long plait behind her.
Reverse: Venus standing facing right, with elbow resting on a column, holding a helmet and a spear.
