Ancient Roman Republic 157-155BC S76 Head of Roma, Victory in Biga Silver Denarius Almost Uncirculated (AU-50)
The Ancient Roman Republic (509–27 BCE) was a system of government that replaced Rome’s monarchy and laid the foundation for one of history’s greatest civilizations. Characterized by a complex balance of power, it featured elected magistrates, the Senate, and popular assemblies that represented different segments of society. The Republic expanded rapidly through military conquest, diplomacy, and alliances, eventually dominating the Italian peninsula and much of the Mediterranean world. Though it prided itself on civic duty and shared governance, tensions between the patrician elite and the plebeian commoners shaped its politics. Over time, growing inequality, ambitious generals, and civil wars weakened the system, paving the way for the rise of Julius Caesar and the transition to the Roman Empire under Augustus.
Obverse: The helmeted head of Roma facing right, with an X behind.
Reverse: Victory driving a biga (a two-horse chariot) to the right, hoding reins in their left hand, and brandishing a whip with their right hand, with ROMA below.

Composition: Silver
Weight: 4.14 g
Diameter: Approx. 18.5 mm
