Late Roman Empire 527-565AD Justinian I Gold Solidus Almost Uncirculated (AU-50)
Justinian I (reigned 527–565 CE) is remembered as one of the most influential rulers of the Byzantine Empire, often called Justinian the Great. Determined to restore the glory of Rome, he launched ambitious military campaigns that temporarily reclaimed parts of Italy, North Africa, and Spain. His reign is most famous for the Corpus Juris Civilis (Body of Civil Law), a comprehensive codification that became the foundation of much of European legal tradition. Justinian also oversaw an impressive building program, including the construction of the magnificent Hagia Sophia in Constantinople. Despite facing challenges such as the devastating plague and costly wars, his vision left a lasting legacy on law, architecture, and imperial power.
