Late Roman Empire 337-361AD Antioch Mint Constantius II Gold Solidus Almost Uncirculated (AU-50)
Flavius Julius Constantius II (AD 317–361) was the second son of Constantine the Great and ruled as Roman emperor for nearly a quarter century, from 337 until his death in 361. Initially sharing power with his brothers, he eventually became sole ruler of the vast empire. Known for his sharp political skill and military campaigns, he defended Rome’s eastern borders against the Sassanid Persians and worked to maintain unity during a turbulent era of religious conflict, strongly promoting the Arian form of Christianity. His reign was marked by both administrative efficiency and intrigue, and he left a lasting imprint on the late Roman world before being succeeded by his cousin, Julian, shortly after his death.
