This 2023 1oz silver coin is the fourth release within the Australian Zoo Series and features a White Rhinoceros. The southern white rhinoceros is one of the largest and heaviest land animals in the world. Southern white rhinos are listed as near threatened, with roughly 18,000 animals living in the wild, making protection very critical. They tend to avoid the heat during the hot summer days and rest in the shade or mud.

The 2023 $1 Australian Zoo: White Rhinoceros reverse illustrates a southern white rhinoceros with four birds resting on the rhino's face. Accompanying this image is the inscription, "Australian Zoo Southern White Rhinoceros", metal content and fineness. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II along with the face value.
