1865 Newfoundland 5 Cents Very Good (VG-8)
Though at that time Newfoundland was a British colony, Newfoundland had its own distinct coinage separate from Canada, beginning in 1865 and ending in 1949, when Newfoundland joined Confederation. In 1865, Newfoundland issued its own silver coinage under its own authority, struck at the Royal Mint in London in sterling silver. As it is the beginning of Newfoundland's silver coin series, it remains a cornerstone of any Newfoundland collection.
