1813-1963 Battle of York Commemorative Medallion. Image is an example of what you will receive.
The spring of 1813 saw American forces achieve some of their first significant successes in the War of 1812 as combined naval and army forces operated against York (Toronto) and Fort George, by Niagara-on-the-Lake. British forces retreated from York to their fortress at Kingston, blowing the York powder magazine behind them. This massive explosion claimed the lives of many, including American Brigadier-General Zebulon Pike (who had armed some of his troops, yes, with pikes). American troops proceeded to set some government buildings on fire and seized the symbolic mace of the Upper Canadian (now Ontario) parliament.
