Since 1955, the mascot of Carnaval has been Bonhomme Carnaval, a cheerful snowman dressed in a hat and a ceinture fléchée, a sort of woven sash that is traditional to Québécois and Métis communities.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis souvenir token from the 1983 Carnaval features Bonhomme frolicking happily on the reverse. The obverse displays the Monument of François-Xavier-Garneau. Garneau (1809-1866) wrote a three-volume history of French Canada titled \u003ci\u003eHistoire du Canada\u003c\/i\u003e between 1845 and 1848.
