After many struggles, Duarte and his followers succeeded, and the Dominican Republic proclaimed its independence in 1844.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIn 1976, the Dominican Republic produced this series of proof coins to celebrate the centennial of Duarte's death. Each coin features a facing bust of the Founding Father, and all six are contained in an elegant, navy case for safe display and storage.
