Made of silver, it served as a standard unit of currency throughout the vast empire, which stretched from Egypt to India. The coin's design typically featured a depiction of the Persian king in a kneeling stance, holding a bow and an akinakès (a type of dagger), symbolizing his role as both a warrior and protector of the empire. The siglos was widely circulated and used in trade across diverse regions, helping unify the empire’s economy. This coin reflects both the military prowess and administrative sophistication of the Achaemenid Persians, who used standardized currency to facilitate commerce and maintain control across their territories.

Obverse: A crowned king facing right, and running with the akinakès in his right hand, and a bow in his left.
Reverse: An incuse punch.

Specifications:
Issuer: Achaemenid Empire (559-330 BC)
Monarchs:

Artaxerxes I Longimanus (465-424BC)

Darius II (423-404BC)

Artaxerxes II Mnemon (405-358BC)

Darius III Codomannus (336-330BC)

Composition: Silver
Weight: 5 g
Diameter: 14 mm
https://www.colonialacres.com/products/ac-0027-ancient-persian-empire-450-330bc-silver-siglos-vf-ef-vf-30
