It was launched in 1871 with James Austin at the helm. By 1897, the Dominion Bank had opened it's first western branch in Winnipeg, MB. The Bank rapidly expanded at the beginning of the 20th Century, and by the end of WWII their assets were stronger than ever. However, the costs of expansion and competition with rivals made their objectives difficult to obtain, so it was decided that a merger with a company of equal size would be advantageous for the company. In February of 1955, the Dominion Bank merged with the Bank of Toronto and became the Toronto Dominion Bank, now known as TD Bank Group.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFace Design: Clifton H.
