By 1796, the "s" in "disme" was dropped, and the first dimes were minted, featuring the "Draped Bust" design, which was used until 1807. From 1796 until 1837, the dimes were composed of 89.24% silver and 10.76% copper, and were very small to prevent them from being worth more in silver value than their face value. The silver percentage was then increased with the introduction of the "Seated Liberty" dime, and continued until 1965, when the composition switched to a copper and nickel alloy, bonded to a copper core.

Obverse: Liberty head facing right, with the date below and country name around.
Reverse: Denomination within a wreath; mint mark (if present) is located below the ribbon.

Specifications:
Engraver: Charles Edward Barber
Composition: 0.900 Silver, 0.100 Copper
Weight: 2.5 g
Diameter: 17.9 mm
Edge: Reeded
Die Axis: ↑↓
Mint: The United States Mint of Philadelphia, USA
Mintage: 18,870,000

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0679/1744/7457/files/nophoto_2636f0c3-e8c4-4c92-bae0-e67eb970fa8d.gif?v=1719346692
