Thessaly is a traditional geographic and modern administrative region of Greece. In ancient times, Thessaly was known as Aeola, and appears in Homer's The Odyssey, where the hero Odysseus visited the kingdom of Aeolus.

Larissa is the capital and largest city of the Thessaly region of Greece. According to ancient Greek legends, Larissa was the city in which Achilles was born. Hippocrates, the "Father of Medicine", is thought to have died in Larissa.
