1917 Variety 1 USA Quarter Brilliant Uncirculated (MS-63)

The 1917 Standing Liberty quarter drew some controversy after it's minting, which caused the design to be altered. On the original variety, Liberty's right breast is uncovered, which apparently offended some people. Because of this, Liberty was redesigned to include a chainmail breast plate. As well, the reverse of the coin was redesigned; the variety 1 reverse features seven stars on the left side and six on the right of the eagle, while the variety 2 reverse features 5 stars on each side of the eagle, and three beneath, which also alters the positioning of the eagle, aligning it higher up on the coin.

Specifications:
Obverse: Standing Liberty, looking over her left shoulder with right breast covered by chainmail, holding a shield in the left hand and an olive branch in the right. Thirteen stars representing the original 13 colonies are on the sides of Liberty.
Reverse: Eagle flying to the right, with ten stars on eighter side, and three below.
