2011 Canada $20 Christmas Tree Fine Silver Coin (TAX Exempt)

The reverse design of this 99.99% pure silver coin, by Tony Bianco, features a traditional star-topped Christmas tree wrapped in fluffy garlands and studded with five SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS "lights".

Coin designs: A traditional scene from Holidays past features a star-topped Christmas tree in a front parlour window with lovingly-wrapped gifts arranged at its base.

December is a month of sparkling lights and festive treasures. The Christmas tree is the focal point of the Season: the guardian of gifts children are ever-eager to unwrap; the storehouse of cherished family memories that hang from its branches.

The practice of decorating winter homes with evergreen boughs dates back to ancient times. The tradition of setting up an actual tree is believed to have originated in Germany and was brought to Canada towards the end of the 18th century.

Anything that reflected light and sparkled was hung on the tree to enrich its beauty. With every glass ball and strand of tinsel, the excitement grew - a Holiday tradition preserved forever in this glittering pure silver coin.
