BC-37b 1954 Canada $1 Beattie-Rasinsky, W/N no FPN, VF

Due to the sudden death of King George VI in 1952, The Bank of Canada prepared the Canadian Landscape Series to be released in 1954. Unlike the design of its predecessors, the 1954 issued notes featured Queen Elizabeth II on the right side of the note - a tactical way to prevent folding in the center of the note. Additionally, the reverse of the note was now replaced with various landscapes around Canada.

As for printing, the $1, $,5, $20, $50, $100 and $1000 notes were produced by the Canadian Bank Note Company; whereas, the $1, $2, $5, and $10 notes were produced by the British American Bank Note Company.

Charlton Code: BC-37b
Series Name: The Canadian Landscape Series
Prefix: W/N
Signature: Beattie-Rasminsky
Certification: N/A
Variety: No Face Plate Number (No FPN)

Special Features
In reference to the No Face Plate Number variety, in 1964 the Bank of Canada granted the CBN and the BABN permission to no longer list the face plate number on banknotes. Soon after printing these notes that excluded the FPN, the RCMP objected and the decision was overturned. However, as printing had already began, some 1954 $1 notes do not have Face Plate Numbers.
