2018 Great Britain 2 Pounds Oriental Border Britannia 1oz Silver (No Tax)
The Royal Mint celebrates the expansion of the British bullion business into Asia with this limited edition Britannia coin that bears special resemblance to another coin featuring the iconic symbol of Britannia, the British Trade Dollar.
The coin’s reverse features Philip Nathan’s classic rendering of mighty Britannia, with her shield, Corinthian helmet, olive branch and trident, only this time her steadfast thwarting of the gale is exquisitely captured in a frame of oriental design, as seen on the face of the British Trade Dollar. The coin’s particulars of name, weight and purity have been relocated from their usual place in the frame to appear in smaller relief alongside Britannia, on the star burst textured rear field.
The coin’s obverse acknowledges the theme with a more subtle rendering of the oriental frame, surrounding a detailed portrait of Elizabeth II. Also on the obverse is Elizabeth II’s regal title, as well as the coin’s denominational value.
Both the British Trade Dollar and the Britannia bullion coins bear designs of symbolic poignance and great artistic beauty. This limited edition design brings them together with results that are truly breathtaking.
