2018 GB 5 Pounds Queen's Beasts - Black Bull of Clarence 2oz. Silver (No Tax)
The Black Bull of Clarence joins the heraldic line up of beasts which are the topic of this well received series by the Royal Mint, these re-imagined beasts were present in sculpted form at Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee in 1953, at Westminster Abbey.
The coin's reverse is home to the heraldic Black Bull of Clarence, set on an impressive textured field and holding the royal arms of Edward IV, from whom this beast originated; the same arms were borne by Richard III, as well as the houses Lancaster and Tudor. Also on the reverse, you'll find the coin's title, as well as its purity and weight.
The coin's obverse bears a rendering of Elizabeth II, skilfully captured by Jody Clark and set on a textured field which catches the light and also serves as a security feature. This portrait shares the obverse with the coin's denominational value, as well as Elizabeth II's formal title.
The full colour statues, after which the features in this series were fashioned, were created by James Woodford, on commission from the British Ministry of Works.
