2003 Canada Proof Double Dollar Set Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Discover of Cobalt (may be lightly toned/box may be scuffed)

Canada is a mining nation, and nothing epitomizes this more than the founding of Cobalt in Ontario. In 1902, the government of Ontario launched a railway to run from North Bay to Haileybury and New Liskeard, located on the shores of Lake Temiskaming. In the summer of 1903, Fred LaRose, a blacksmith, was working on the construction of the railway, when he saw a fox. He grabbed a hammer and threw it to the direction of the mammal. He missed, but he later on discovered that the hammer had exposed a silver vein. This incident led to the establishment of silver mines and the community of Cobalt, which paved the way for further exploration and mining throughout the province of Ontario and generated huge profits. The mineral cobalt itself, now used for batteries, also abounded in the ore.

Commemorate the historic anniversary of this event with this Canada 2003 Discovery of Cobalt Proof Double Dollar Set. This eight-coin set features a $1 coin with a design of the fox which led to the discovery of silver deposits. Also included in the set is a $2 coin, Loon dollar coin, 50-cents, 25-cents, 10-cents, 5-cents, and 1-cent. As is typical, this set may have light toning, and/or the outer cardboard sleeve may have some minor wear.
