This coin is carefully removed from the 2021 Canada Endangered Species Blanding's Turtle Specimen Set. This set highlights the Blanding Turtle, an endangered species, which when newly hatched is approximately the size of the 2021 Specimen Dollar within the set.

The 2021 50-cent Specimen coin's reverse features the traditional Coat of Arms design implemented in 1937. The obverse of this coin depicts the new effigy (uncrowned) portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the RCM Logo underneath the portrait.
