Description

1947 Maple Leaf Canada 50-cents Extra Fine (EF-40)

Maple Leaf: With the granting of independence to India, the Royal Canadian Mint was faced with a problem in early 1948. The new obverse coinage tools with the Latin abbreviation "ET IND: IMP" omitted would not arrive for several months, yet there was a need for all denominations of cons. The Mint satisfied this by striking coins dated 1947 and baring an obverse with outmoded titles. To differentiate this issue from the regular strikings of 1947, a tiny maple leaf was placed after the date.
