The origin of the Tooth Fairy dates back centuries ago to European history when parents commonly buried their childrens first fallen baby tooth in the ground. In addition to believing a new tooth would grow in its place, there was widespread belief that teeth had an element of powerso much power they could ward off evil. As people migrated to North America, so too did the legend.

Today, the tradition has evolved and the lost tooth is left under a childs pillow at bedtime. While the child is sleeping, the Tooth Fairy makes a visit and takes the tooth in exchange for money or a gift.
