Description

1996 Canada Brilliant Uncirculated Dollar McIntosh Commemorative.

John McIntosh arrived in Canada in 1796 and settled in Ontario. Issued to pay tribute to the originator of Canada's most important commercial apple.

The McIntosh, McIntosh Red, or Mac, is Canada's national apple strain. It all started when John McIntosh immigrated to Canada in 1796 and eventually discovered the original tree. Through the years, his sons and grandson oversaw the transformation of the apple from a locally celebrated species to an iconic commercial name.

Celebrate 200th anniversary of McIntosh Apple with this 1996 John McIntosh Brilliant Uncirculated Sterling Silver Coin. The reverse design is created by Canadian artist Roger Hill and it depicts the contributions of the McIntosh company to the country's agricultural and horticultural growth. The obverse comes with an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Dora de Pedery-Hunt.

As is typical, this coin may have light toning, and the outer cardboard sleeve may have some wear.
