Description

1999 Canada $10050th Anniversary of Newfoundland's Confederation 14K Gold

The 50th anniversary of Newfoundland's union with Canada on March 31, 1949 is celebrated on the 1999 $100 gold coin.

Newfoundland is the youngest of the Canadian provinces, joining the Confederation in 1949. It is known for its beautiful coasts, steep hills, and rich history. In fact, Vikings, Paleo-Eskimos, English, French, and Maritime Archaic Indians claimed the province as home or hunting ground. Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the union of Newfoundland to Canada with this beautiful 1999 Anniversary of Newfoundland's Confederation 14K Gold Coin.

The design on the reverse of the coin features an Atlantic puffin, pitcher plant, and a beautiful iceberg, all symbolic images of Newfoundland. This design is complemented by Dora de Pédery-Hunt's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth on the obverse side. This coin comes presented in a keepsake box from The Royal Canadian Mint.
