Description

2006-P USA Statehood Quarter - North Dakota - Single

North Dakota State Quarters were released on August 28, 2006 as the thirty-ninth coin in the State Quarter series. North Dakotas original Statehood date was November 2, 1889.

The North Dakota Quarter reverse design features two American Bison. The inscriptions include the State name, Statehood date, mintage date, and E Pluribus Unum. The coins reverse was designed and engraved by Donna Weaver.

The North Dakota Badlands are featured in the background of the coin. In the mid 1800s, herds of American Bison or buffalo roamed the region. The area is now a National Park and home to more than 400 buffalo.

The governor created a nine member commission to solicit and review design narratives from the states citizens. The commission selected three design concepts and forwarded them to the United States Mint. The governor recommended the Badlands with Bison design, which was accepted and approved by the US Treasury Department. Other design for the North Dakota State Quarter that had been considered included migrating waterfowl and the agriculture industry represented by an aerial view of a modern farm.
Mintage:
2006-P North Dakota Quarter: 305,800,000
2006-D North Dakota Quarter: 359,000,000
