Description

1985 Canada's National Parks Proof Silver Dollar

The 1985 silver dollar commemorates the 100th anniversary of an important part of Canada's heritage, the National Parks.

Canada's national parks are a country-wide system that is made up of protected areas that are established under federal legislation to preserve the country's natural heritage. All in all, Canada has 48 national parks that cover more than 340,000 km2, which is about 3% of the country's total landmass.

1985 marks the 100th anniversary of the National Parks of Canada and to commemorate this, the Canadian Mint released this National Parks Proof .50 Silver Dollar Coin. The coin's reverse design is created by Montreal artist Karel Rohlicek and comes with an image of a moose that is standing in a pond with mountains on the background. The obverse comes with an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
