2018 Niue $2 Battles that Changed History - The Battle of Hastings Silver (TAX Exempt)

The Battle of Hastings was fought on 14 October 1066 at Senlac Hill, 11 kilometres from Hastings, England. It began the Norman conquest of England led by William, the Duke of Normandy, later known as William the Conqueror.

King Harold Godwinson of Wessex had taken the English throne after King Edward "the Confessor" died leaving no children. William of Normandy also claimed rights to the crown and stormed the Sussex coast defeating the English in a bloody battle that left thousands dead.

The English fought a good fight which lasted most of the day, despite their opponents' superior cavalry. In the end, the Norman invaders gained the winning advantage by adopting the tactic of feigning retreat and then turning on their pursuers. Harold was killed in the engagement and, after further skirmishes, William was crowned king on Christmas Day 1066.

The fourth fine silver coin in the exciting Battles That Changed History coin collection is the Battle of Hastings 1oz Silver Coin.

This impressive coin features a coloured illustration of William the Conqueror, leader of the victorious invading Norman army. He stands against an antique, engraved background featuring infantry and cavalry engaged in battle.

The themed outer box features a black line art illustration of the battle imposed over an antiqued paper texture. Inside an antique-looking timber box opens to reveal the coin nestled in its black velvet interior with the uniquely numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

This coin would also make an excellent gift for coin collectors and those interested in history. But with a worldwide mintage of only 5,000 coins, you will want to order yours today!
