Description

1947 Maple Leaf Canada 10-cents EF-AU (EF-45)

Maple Leaf: The granting of independence to India posed a problem for the Royal Canadian Mint in early 1948. The new obverse coinage tools with the Latin phrase "ET IND: IMP" omitted to indicate that the King was no longer the Emperor of India would not arrive for several months, yet there was a great need for all denominations of coins. The mint satisfied the demand by striking coins dated 1947 bearing the overse with the outmoded titles. To differentiate this issue from the regular strikings of 1947, a tiny maple leaf was placed after the date.
