Description

2008 Canada Common Eider Specimen Set

The Royal Canadian Mint is proud to present the 2008 Specimen Set of Canadian coins. The finish on these superb coins is a three-fold combination of brilliant and frosted relief on a lined finish background.

A very collectible tradition, begun in 2004, continues this year with a unique tribute to another member of Canada's diverse avian wildlife. The common eider is the largest duck in the northern hemisphere, found virtually anywhere along Canada's eastern and northern coasts. The common eider is gregarious and may nest in colonies of 10,000 or more.

This is the only set featuring the aureate dollar with the common eider design by Mark Hobson. This limited-edition coin greatly enhances the collectability of a set which also features a distinctive finish of brilliant and frosted relief on a lined background.

Mintage: 40,000
Finish: Specimen
