There are 26 species of fritillaries throughout Canada and the Great Spangled Fritillary (Speyeria cybele) is one of the largest and most widespread of the "greater" fritillaries Males are orange with black veins on the upper surface while the females are yellow-brown and darker on the base of the wings.
